Reddy – Safe, Go!: workplace safety becomes a game

Reddy – Safe, Go! is a pixel art video game about workplace safety that I designed for CGIL Toscana, at the request of AnteprimaADV. It was launched at Lucca Comics & Games 2026 and you can play it online.

The goal was to talk about safety to young people entering the world of work in a language they know well: video games.

From a red square to a hero

While I was designing the levels, a mascot in CGIL Toscana’s red was requested. Their symbol is a red square, so I thought: what if it became the hero? I gave it eyes, hands and shoes and Reddy was born. The client picked the name.

Then I drew his expressions and animations for the whole game: running, joy, sadness and a few bumps on the head.

How to play Reddy – Safe, Go!

I came up with the gameplay: it’s a time-based platformer. There is no continuous floor, you jump from platform to platform. Falling doesn’t cost lives but precious seconds, and coins scattered across the worlds give back half a second.

Four work worlds

The four worlds, suggested by the client, are everyday workplaces: building site, warehouse, laboratory and confined space. Each one has its own backgrounds, platforms and hazards, all drawn in pixel art.

Pixel art warehouse world: Reddy in a high-visibility vest, boxes, pallets, emergency exit sign and barcode label – pixel art animation.
Pixel art laboratory world: Reddy with goggles and mask above colourful test tubes – pixel art animation.
Pixel art confined space world: Reddy with a gas mask among an electrical panel, air vent and bulkhead lamp – pixel art animation.

Eight PPE, questions and a leaderboard

Along the way Reddy collects eight pieces of PPE (personal protective equipment) and wears them on the fly. To move on he has to answer safety questions correctly. The fastest player who answers every question correctly wins.

At Lucca Comics & Games 2026 the CGIL Toscana booth was dressed with the game’s assets, and YouTuber Yotobi also stopped by to play with Reddy.
