Manolo Saviantoni has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator since 1999. In April 2014, during a rail strike at Roma Termini station, he downloaded a pixel art app with a 24×24 canvas and started drawing little animals on his commute, which his daughters would try to guess in the evening. He posted them on Instagram as The_Oluk: in November 2014 the official Instagram blog interviewed him and his followers jumped from 300 to 10,000 overnight. In 2015 DailyTekk listed him among the 150 best Instagram accounts, fifth in the Art category. In 2020, after the lockdown and the success of his meme game Al Bano vs Dinos, he became a full-time pixel artist, and since then he has been designing video games, animated posters and animations for TV, brands and artists. His collaboration with developer Samuele Sciacca began in 2018 with the Don Matteo 11 video game; in February 2022 they co-founded the studio Dinobros, whose name comes from Al Bano vs Dinos. In January 2024 Manolo went back to working independently as The_Oluk, the name he has always signed his work with, and the two still work together on many projects.
